Quick search module

The quick search module that you will find on almost any travel website is used by over 80% of the customers. Knowing what your client is looking for gives you the opportunity to present a better selection of accommodations. The more details they leave you, the bigger the chance an offer you make is relevant. Asking someone a destination is easy: just present a pull down with the countries, regions or ski area’s, depending on the channel.

Knowing when someone is planning a vacation is a more difficult challenge. Families might ask for “a week during the spring holiday”, couples could tell you “a few days, anywhere between March and April”. Also the party-size and traveller details are helpful elements for calculating exact child discounts depending on the age of the children or showing hotels with, for instance safe swimming pools for babies…

I created 2 flows to gain this specific information. The first flow has visual simplicity, with 1 click a shadow-box is presented where the user can fill in the details. The now proven disadvantage of this flow is accessibility. By not giving direct access to the form and elements to tweak, not too many visitors seem to use the option. The second flow that I then created has all the options accessible directly, but might seem complex because there are a lot of options. Only proper testing will give us the answers we seek…
